G. Buondelmonti
Via delle Terme Firenze
The Buondelmonti tower, which was shortened in accordance with the verdict of 1250, guarded the north side of the block here on Via delle Terme, which gets its name from the fact that the Roman baths were once located here.
This tower is not especially different from that last one. The fact that the headquarters of the Buondelmonti family was safely nestled between them (with their guarded treasure) gives you an idea of how large clans could be powerful both politically and militarily.
The history of the Buondelmonti family is tied principally to the events surrounding the brutal murder of Buondelmonte de’ Buondelmonti in 1215 and the subsequent division of the city into Guelphs and Ghibellines.
It is likely that some members of the Buondelmonti family could have witnessed his assassination from the windows of the tower that looks out over the Arno.
