Do I have to have wi-fi access for the app to work?
No, the app works without wi-fi. However, it is even faster with a wi-fi connection in the city. Alternatively, you can download a map of Florence from Google Maps while you’re online that will work in the app’s background. Just sign into Google Maps, navigate to Florence and select “Download Offline Map.”
Where can I find explanations of specialized terms, such as consorteria and podestà?
In order to keep the documents brief, we have explained terms like these in the documents you’ll find in the History section.
How do I know when I’m close to a Dante plaque or another point of interest?
The section entitled “Near me” presents a map of the points of interest as well as your own position. If you’re looking for a Dante plaque, just use the other map, which is available by clicking on the orange icon at the bottom right icon of the Dante plaque menu. Similarly, you can click on the map icon on any other menu list.
How do I find a particular point of interest?
All the sights of interest are available in alphabetical order by category. For example, if you’d like to find the church of Santa Maria Novella, simply select “Things to see” from the main menu and then “Churches.” Once you’ve selected the document related to Santa Maria Novella, scroll down to the map, above which you’ll find a link called “See the route.” Clicking on that option will create a route in Google Maps for you to follow from your location to the church. The same process can be followed for any of the sights, including the Dante plaques.
